About this experience

Nestled in the shadow of Mount Ama Dablam, Khumjung is a historic Sherpa village. Stay in our traditional Sherpa home, cook Salted Butter Tea (Suja) and Sherpa stew (Shyakpa) with us, and hear firsthand stories of Everest expeditions from village elders. We'll visit the local Khumjung Monastery (which houses the alleged Yeti scalp) and enjoy unmatched mountain views.

Host Itinerary

Day 1 - 3:00 PM

Yak Butter Tea & Khata Blessing

Arrive at our stone home. Ang Dorjee will place a silk blessing scarf (Khata) around your neck and serve hot, salty Sherpa butter tea (Suja).

Day 1 - 4:00 PM

Yeti Scalp & Khumjung Monastery

Take a short walk to the Khumjung Monastery. Spin the ancient prayer wheels and view the locked glass case housing the legendary Yeti Scalp.

Day 1 - 6:30 PM

Sherpa Stew (Shyakpa) Cooking Lesson

Gather around our kitchen fireplace. Learn how to hand-knead the dumplings and cook a hearty Sherpa potato-dumpling stew (Shyakpa) for dinner.

Day 2 - 7:30 AM

Sherpa Breakfast & Peak Views

Watch Ama Dablam and Everest clear up. Eat a breakfast of Tibetan fried bread, local yak cheese, and organic potato pancakes before hiking out.
