About this experience

Celebrate Dashain, the biggest and most auspicious festival of Nepal, with a loving multigenerational family. You will participate in receiving the sacred red Tika and Jamara seeds from the family elders, taste festive delicacies like mutton curry, chiura, and sel roti (Nepalese rice donuts), and play on the traditional tall bamboo swing (Ping) erected specifically for the festival.

10:30 AM

Frying Sel Roti with Grandmother

Learn the art of pouring and frying circular Sel Rotis (sweet Nepalese rice flour donuts) in a massive copper pot of hot oil.

11:30 AM

Dashain Tika Blessing

Participate in the blessing ceremony. Family elders will put the red Tika on your forehead and place yellow Jamara seedlings behind your ear for prosperity.

1:00 PM

Grand Dashain Festive Feast

Eat a hearty Dashain lunch featuring spicy goat meat curry, beaten rice (chiura), spiced bamboo shoots (tama), and home-fermented pickles.

Bamboo Swing (Ping) & Card Games

Head to the community ground to swing on the 30-foot-tall bamboo swing (Ping), believed to release your connection to the earth once a year. Wind down playing traditional card games.
